Conservation—Reducing our Carbon Footprint

WAWM encourages its residents to conserve our natural resources such as electricity and water.

Tips:

  • Never pour water down the drain when there can be an alternate use for it. Use it to water indoor plants or garden.
  • Do not waste water waiting it to get hot or cold.  Capture it for other uses or heat it on the stove or microwave.  This can save 200-300 gallons/month.
  • Kitchen sink disposals require a lot of water to operate properly.  Try starting a compost pile as a method of disposing food waste and reducing the amount of garbage you produce.
  • Do not run water while brushing your teeth or washing your face.  Turn the water on as you need it.
  • Soak pots & pans rather than allowing them to sit under running water while scraping them clean.
  • When using your dishwasher, fill it to capacity.
  • When leaving a room, turn off all lights, and fans.
  • Try turning up your thermostat during the mid-point of the day, and also when you are not in your house.  Or install a digital programmable thermostat and have it done automatically.
  • Run your pool filter approximately 8 hours per day, and your pool heater only when you need it.
