Beautification Projects |

Historic NW 29th Street “Pineapple Gateway” - WAWM organized this project to uncover, restore, and refurbish the 1950’s entryway wall to the Jenada Villas subdivision. Working with the City of Wilton Manors, the Wilton Manors Historical Society, as well as our membership we removed huge old plants and debris which covered the walls for many years. We put a fresh coat of paint on the walls, and installed new landscaping and irrigation. These wall are an important Wilton Manors historical artifact, and complement the NW 20th Street entrance to WAWM.
NW 20th Street Broward Beautiful Grant—WAWM obtained the first Broward Beautiful Grand in Wilton Manors to re-landscape NW 20th St. entranceway as intersects Andrews Ave. We worked closely with the City of Wilton Manors to reshape the median and place “speed tables” as part of a neighborhood traffic calming project, as well as working closely with the adjoining property owners on each side median.
NW 8th Ave. & NW 23rd Street Beautification Project—This dead-end street cul-de-sac was improved with the help of WAWM, residents, and the Boys & Girls Club of Fort Lauderdale. The project now has a small park with a bench.
NW 30th Ct.—A privacy fence was erected at the east end of NW 30th Ct. adjacent to the Publix parking lot. Landscaping was added to the area and the “park” was dedicated to original WAWM member Nicholas “Nicky” Gereffi. A plaque is mounted on the fence honoring Nicky. Also, WAWM collaborated with the city for new landscaping to the triangle swale at NW 30th Ct. & Powerline Rd. WAWM volunteers maintain these attractive areas.
Events Annual Bowling Tournament— It’s now tied 1-1 between WAWM & ENA for the Annual WAWM/ENA Bowling Tournament.
Annual Block Party Picnic—This is our annual party, open to everyone living in the WAWM area. Normally scheduled in May at Mickel field. It wraps up our Annual Membership Drive.
Neighborhood Security Conference— This event held in October, educates residents on safety and security around the home and within the community. Co-hosted with JENNA an ENA, this event is free to all Wilton Manors residents and businesses and is strongly supported by the City.
Recreational Events—WAWM has steadfastly contributed to the City of WM recreational events for families which include the Halloween Spooktacular, The Holiday Lighting Event, and the Springtime Eggstravaganza
Howl-At-The-Moon—Oct ‘07 WAWM held a social at the popular night spot and attendees were entertained by the famous dueling pianos.
Night At The Museum—Mar ‘08 WAWM members were treated to a private wine tasting and docent guided tour of the Dorothy Draper exhibit
A Nite At The Movies—July ‘08 WAWM Sordid Lives at Cinema Paradiso proved to be an excellent venue for our annual membership drive. Over 100 people enjoyed the pre-show reception and the film.
Civic Support Kiwanis Kids Day—WAWM has sponsored the Kiwanis Kids day at the WM Elementary School, and has participated in a bubble booth for the 2nd year in a row with approximately 500 children in attendance.
WM 5K—WAWM has been a sponsor for the annual Wilton Manors 5K Race since its inception. Proceeds from the race are donated to the Pace Center for Girls Broward.
Communications—WAWM passes on information on interest to WAWM members from the City via email as appropriate. During the aftermath of Hurricane Wilma, we passed on official statements from both the State of Florida and Broward County. Please see our Privacy Policy concerning the use of our email list.
Broward Adopt-A-Street—From 2005 to 2007, WAMW adopted Andrews Ave. from the South Fork of the Middle River to 26th Street. WAWM volunteers picked up litter all along Andrews Ave. four times a year during that sponsorship.
National Night Out—WAWM encourages residents to have little “street parties” to support the annual National Night Out, a nationally organized event in conjunction with the City of Wilton Manors Police dept.
Neighborhood Crime Watch—Working with residents and the WMPD, we have helped establish a Neighborhood Crime Watch are to empower residents to prevent and report crime.
Support to NW 30th Court Residents—Responding to concerns of some residents of NW 30th Court about the expansion of a business on Oakland Park Blvd. which abuts them to the north, WAMW facilitated meetings with the business owner, the residents, and the City Public Services Dept. Getting all of the appropriate participants involved resulted in a number of compromises and accommodations with a satisfactory outcome for everyone.
Motocross Park—When the City of Ft. Lauderdale was considering creating a Motocross venue at Mills Pond Park, across the river from Jenada Isle, WAWM worked with the City and Jenada Isles Association to assess the impact on Wilton Manors. Ultimately the project was scrapped. |
